Lance Reeves
Hi, I'm Lance Reeves.
Lance Reeves's Bio:
I decided to become a therapist because I was emotionally abused as a child and so I always wanted to help people who were in a similar situation. I was born and raised in Mexico city and moved to the United States at the age of 19. When living in Mexico city, my family went through adversity. We were poor and would have to constantly move from place to place because my family could not afford to pay for stable housing. We would often sleep in my grandmother's house, or other relatives. Sometimes our relatives would get tired of us and kick us out, which means we would go around and ask motel owners if they had a spare room. Of course, the motel was a business so they would not give anything for free. My parents would pay whatever they had in their pocket to stay the night. Unfortunately, sometimes we could not even afford a motel room so we would sleep in the car. It was a difficult situation but I consider it part of my growth. I would say without these experiences, I would not have become the peseverant person that I am today. In general, I find that I have a lot of perseverance. When I have a goal in mind, I will not stop until I have reached that goal. I am also humble because I have been down before so I know how it feels. When I moved to Los Angeles, I had literally no money to my name. My parents wanted a better life for me so they wanted me to go to a good school and receive a good education. That is the reason that they enrolled me in the best school in Los Angeles. I will not name the school but this is a famous school that a lot of people want to go to, because the education is supposedly superior to other schools. The first day of school I spoke zero English, and now here I am typing this in perfect English, I am so proud of myself. In school, I read a lot of literature books because I was always interested in such materials. Fiction is my favorite but I also read nonfiction here and there. After high school, I became an Uber driver because I did not see myself pursuing a college degree. I thought it would be too hard and I just did not have what it takes. I also needed money because of a family situation. I registered with Lyft and Uber and started driving for the on a full time basis. This was a good job because it allowed me to interact with a lot of people. Not only did I learn the roads around me, but also I got to meet a lot of people. One day I turned on the app and started driving, and someone read ended me. I was very upset and I got out of the car and noticed significant damage to my car. I contacted various Uber accident lawyers but they said I could not get money because the accident was my fault. They said since I braked too suddenly, the person hit me from behind and there was nothing I could do. After the accident, I got depressed and stopped driving for Uber. Then, I decided to go back to school. I enrolled in a community college and started taking introductory classes. Going back to school after a few years is so hard, because your mind is just not in that state any more. The first semester I did not do well. It was mostly my fault because I could not focus and I would just go out and party. But the grades that I got in the first semester kind of woke me up and made me realize I need to focus. I started doing my better my second semester and thereafter. I then transferred to a four year university and now I am attending graduate school.
